Reducation Graphic Design (2024)

BOSK (2022)
In my last year of college (CMD), I’ve worked on a group project that’s been organised by ARCADIA (foundation Leeuwarden-Fryslân 2018-2028). The event is called BOSK, which indicate the forest life. Thousands of trees are then placed at the center of Leeuwarden for hundred days from May to mid-August. All kinds of activities are also being held in the context of culture, education, participation and in-depth programs.
Through BOSK, the team came into contact with Anne Graswinckel (education maker of Arcadia) and a collaboration was held to develop a project within “BOSK” for primary schools. The project mainly focused on the issues of primary school children receiving fewer and fewer outdoor lessons in the nature which lead to negative consequences for their health and development.
The team came up with an idea to create three workshops that are linked to a story. The workshops consists of different topics which are about the ecosystem, food and art. The goal is to be able to do the activities outside so that the children can engage with nature in a sensory way. For my part I’ve worked on the art area and developed the third chapter of the story which illustrates the interconnectedness between nature and creativity. The goal is to encourage the children to bring out their artistic side.

Media Heads (2021)
Mediaheads is a company that have developed serious game designs. A few years ago they joined the Rolf group, a total supplier for childcare and education. Together they have developed a bond and work side by side towards a better future for the children. During my internship at Mediaheads I’ve mostly worked on concepting and design where I helped others illustrating their artworks or ideas. We've also made a game prototype that focuses on sustaining food waste.

Cultural Heritage (2020)
In 2020 the municipality of Leeuwarden (capital of Friesland in the Netherlands) is in the process of setting up the 'Heritage Agenda of the Future'. These consists of a contemporary vision on the heritage with related implementation of activities. One of the most important aspects is connecting citizens and involving new audiences about heritage especially the younger generation.
The team found out that the target group find a great value for stories. Through these findings the team gain the idea to create an app where students can explore small hidden locations in Leeuwarden and collect stories that have faded away. While working on this project I mostly bring my part on developing the concept (story) and designing the UI.

Media Art Festival (2019)
Organise the MAF and LUNA festival every year in Leeuwarden which presents different works of artists such as media, light and sound. The festival usually takes place from November till December. Unfortunately the festivals are mainly restrict to artists or artist lovers. In order to reach out to a broader target audience the MAF wanted to develop an interactive introduction to young children about media art. The team participated on this project and made a point and click 2D game prototype in which the main character Kiko (player) discovered a hidden island where the inhabitants of "Waste City" live.
The game is mainly exploring and solving puzzles. In the prototype the player will have to assemble two characters. These characters are part of the assignment where children can create their own waste character. Once a character is complete it will be transported on the island. In my part I bring a lot of focus on developing a concept and a story. For the design I've tried to combine different styles such as images, drawings and notes which gives this collage effect.

Epic Solutions (2019)
Is a non-profit organisation that offers business training in local community venues and provides on-going coaching and encouragement as the trained graduates go through the process of starting their own business. They aim to empower people to become economically sustainable through capacity building and training.
EPIC wants to redesign the basic training and make it future proof with regard to the trainees and their living environment and the educational insights of today. At the end the team were able to make a digital prototype and gained a wonderful opportunity to test it in South Africa itself. In order to let the target group understand the game prototype better the team worked hard on the game usability. In my case I’ve designed the User Interface together with my one of my fellow members. We’ve put a lot of focus on the shapes, colours and layout in order to make it approachable for the target group.
